The Latimerlo Studio offers vocal technique and musical interpretation instruction. Students learn proper physical singing technique including lessons in posture, breathing, focus, resonance, and diaphragmatic support. Our approach combines the highly-regarded bel canto technique with the contemporary “singing as an extension of speech” approaches that have transformed both the musical theatre and pop world over the past 50 years.
Musical Theatre students also learn to create characters and use of Stanislavski-based acting techniques. All students analyze their songs emotionally and learn performance techniques designed to effectively and powerfully communicate meaning.
Full audition preparation is a highlight of our instruction. Students practice technique, character analysis, singing with accompaniment, how to move on stage during an audition, as well as the tidbits of what to wear and how to present yourself.
Our students have gone on to have careers on Broadway and in national musical theatre touring companies, signed with “big name” pop producers and agents, released original albums, and have gotten accepted into the the foremost universities for performance – the famed Berklee in Boston, NYU, and the exclusive songwriting program at University of Miami. Her students are often performing lead roles at companies like Peninsula Youth Theatre, Educational Theatre Company, and Pied Piper Players. Learn more…
